We had a nice, quiet Christmas this year. The 17″ or so of snow helped keep us in and concentrated. It all began with Sofie’s birthday and ended with a Chocolate-Malt Stump de Noël. Yum.

Jobs always end up taking longer than you would have first estimated. I had originally hoped to finish laying tile and grouting during the past week, but that did not happen. Instead, I finished things up this afternoon. I’ll be able to get the toilet out of the bath tub(!?) tomorrow when the grout is sufficiently cured and after I put the trim up. At least the downstairs bathroom is completely done.

The kids are awaiting the big night! Alex is a jack-o-lantern, Sofia is a cat, and Lucia (who doesn’t like her makeup at all) is a dalmatian.

First Day of School

Man – we haven’t been good about keeping the blog up to date. It was the first day of school today, and Lucy started preschool. Sofie’s in the first grade now, and Alex is in 6th. Yikes.

So you leave your kids with their grandparents for a fun couple of days, right? Then you get some pictures like this in your inbox the day you get home. Fun!

Seriously though, the Tulsa City County Public Library has a really good summer program, and they had a special effects artist show up and wound your kids like this for free. Nice!

Playhouse!

We built an over-engineered playhouse for the kids. Really we had promised it last year, but with all the other projects, we couldn’t get to it. This year we made good, and we waited long enough to get it on sale!

We got us about 4 cubic yards of river rock. We’re gonna spread it around miscellaneous parts of the yard. Maybe then it’ll look like the Red River of the North deposited a little something during the Spring flood?

Blizzard, part Deux

We’ve got another snow storm! This isn’t out of the ordinary for Fargo, but it’s a pretty serious storm. The temperature is about 0°F, and wind is somewhere between 25-42 MPH. They have closed I-94 between Fargo and Jamestown, and I-29 is closed from South Dakota to Canada. Most places closed for the day.

I have also learned that the folks at McDonald’s are made of tougher stuff than the folks at Burger King, either that, or the folks at Burger King care enough to let us know that they’re closing, while the folks at McDonald’s do not. Either way, the fam did not venture out to find which was true.

It’s a little depressing coming back to the Winter in Fargo after spending weeks in warmer weather. However, we’ve had a mid-January thaw of sorts, and we get to tell impressive stories of surviving in minus-30˚ weather.

Vacation, 2008-2009

We drove down South to Tulsa for a quick pit-stop, then drove due West, skirting Mexico to San Diego. It was a lot of driving, but it was fun. We got to see tumbleweeds, a 72 oz steak, big ships, sun, and mountains. We also got to see crazy people loading up snow to bring back home… weird.
